Faculty Curriculum Governance

Undergraduate Council (UGC)

The UGC assesses, analyzes and offers suggestions to the Provost regarding new undergraduate academic initiatives and notable alterations to current programs. They participate in the assessment of ongoing undergraduate programs, advocate for excellence in undergraduate education and contribute to the enhancement of university-wide policies for undergraduate students, encompassing admission and retention, scholarships, advising and financial aid.

The UGC Consists of faculty members elected by the faculty within each college or school providing undergraduate degrees on the basis of one member for each 1,000 undergraduate majors, with each qualifying college/school having at least two members.

Graduate Council (GC)

The Graduate Council systematically assesses, evaluates, and advises the Provost/Academic Vice President on both new and existing graduate programs. It champions excellence in graduate education, formulates university-wide policies pertaining to graduate students, shapes financial aid policies for them, and organizes agendas for meetings of graduate faculty.

The GC consists of faculty members elected by the graduate faculty within each college or school providing graduate programs on the basis of one member for each ten percent or major fraction of graduate faculty membership and of graduate student enrollment (each unit has at least one).
