New Faculty Orientation is scheduled for Monday, August 15, 2016, in the Ballroom at Hotel Capstone. The orientation will begin at 7:30 a.m., with breakfast and an official head shot photo taken of each new faculty member. The event will include lunch and will conclude at 1:30. This half-day schedule allows new faculty to attend other events during the afternoon of August 15, as needed in their colleges or departments.
After new faculty appointments have been confirmed and processes, the Office for Academic Affairs will send formal invitations to faculty members in late July with more details about the event. The Office for Academic Affairs encourages new faculty to activate their UA e-mail in order to receive direct communication.
The half-day New Faculty Orientation will be followed by a slate of Faculty First-Year Experiences during the fall and spring semesters. The goal is to help build a sense of shared UA community and identity among new faculty. Please see http://provost.ua.edu/welcome-new-faculty.html for last year’s information. This page will be updated as we add new events for the 2016-2017 year.
This orientation is for all new full-time faculty, regardless of rank. Full-time temporary faculty (a very narrow classification of faculty assigned to a one-year non-renewable appointment) may also attend this workshop.
This program is an important part of the University’s efforts to welcome new faculty and to inform them of their responsibilities and resources to assist in their teaching, research, and service responsibilities.
