ELIGIBILITY

One objective of the Freshman Seminar is to introduce freshmen to many of our finest, current senior faculty members. Thus, tenured and tenure-track faculty are strongly encouraged to apply—with preference given to more senior faculty. However, fulltime instructors and professors emeriti are also eligible to participate.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Faculty/Instructors who are selected to teach a Freshman Seminar may be asked to attend an orientation workshop.
  2. Instructional methods should promote active learning, personal growth, and individual achievement.
  3. Seminars must be eligible for a core curriculum designation (HU, L, FA, HI, SB).

COMPENSATION

Each Freshman Seminar will receive $2,500 in funding. Departments may use these funds to replace lost teaching (due to a faculty member offering the seminar as part of her/his regular teaching load). Or, the faculty member may receive the $2500 if s/he is teaching the course as an overload. The stipend would be prorated in the event of team-taught courses.
